Clinical Massage
Clinical Massage (CM) refers to an approach rather than a specific massage technique. As a CM therapist, I am equipped to assess and evaluate the nature of your condition or injury. I can then choose the most appropriate treatment approach for your from a comprehensive toolkit of soft tissue and massage techniques. In this way, I can tailor a bespoke soft tissue treatment for you and your specific situation.
A CM session may include a blend of remedial, therapeutic, deep tissue and sports massage techniques, as well as articulation, harmonics, stretching and myofacial release. The exact mix will depend on you, your body or your specific situation.
During your session…
To start with, I usually assess your alignment and may ask you to carry out some simple movements so I can see your range. Please note that I will nearly always ask you to remove some clothing to allow me to make a proper assessment. If you are uncomfortable with this, please let me know.
I will palpate the area in need of treatment to assess the quality of your tissues. Treatment is then usually carried out with you lying on the treatment table. Sometimes there may be a need for you to be seated as part of the session.
WHAT IS CM USEFUL FOR?
CM can be effective for a whole variety of musculoskeletal and other problems. It can help by:
Reducing pain and discomfort
Releasing tension
Addressing postural problems
Treating injuries
Improving range of movement
